Men Club

The Transylvania County Democratic Men’s Club will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, at the Pisgah Fish Camp. Join us at 6 p.m. for dinner on your own and fellowship with old and new friends. The program will be discussion of opportunities to be involved in activities during the upcoming election, including the Sept. 10 breakfast sponsored by the men’s club. A brief

business meeting will begin at 7 p.m.

Everyone is welcome to attend meetings of the men’s club, which is an auxiliary organization of the Transylvania County Democratic Party.

Membership is open to men and women who are registered Democrats.


Women Club

Transylvania County Democratic Women will host a kickoff rally for responsive government Saturday, Sept. 10, from noon until 2 p.m. at Silvermont on East Main Street.

Meet local and state Democratic candidates. Free hot dogs with all the fixin’s, drinks and ice cream will be served. All are welcome. Bring your own lawn chair.

Hearing Loss


The Brevard Chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) will hold its September monthly meeting on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 1 p.m. in the Carlson Conference Room of the Transylvania Regional Hospital in Brevard.

Dr. Ellen Deres and Dr. Sarah McCarthy from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Hearing and Voice Center will present the program. Many areas of concern for those experiencing early onset or long-term hearing loss will be addressed: hearing aid styles, levels of technology, and what one receives for money spent; connectivity achieved by use of personal audio cables, telecoils, and FM systems; and aural rehab resources including ways of practicing to maximize benefit with hearing aids or implants and tips regarding phone and background noise. Information regarding UNC Cochlear Implant Studies will conclude the program.

All meetings are free of charge and the meeting room is equipped with magnetic looping hearing assistance for those using hearing aids or implants with T-coils.

Real time captioning of presentations is provided on large screens so no one is left out.

Dance Club

The Silvermont Dance Club’s next event will be held at the French Broad Community Center on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 6-10 p.m. This month’s dance will feature a “Western” theme with live music provided by David Reid. The meal will be catered by Hawg Wild.

There is a reservation deadline of noon Monday, Sept. 12. Guests and
