Brevard College To Stage 'Love/Sick' On Sept. 29

September 19, 2016

On Thursday, Sept. 29, the Brevard College Theatre Department will open its first show of the season, “Love/Sick” by John Cariani. The show is directed by Peter Savage and will run through Sunday, Oct. 2, in the Morrison Playhouse Blackbox theatre, located in The Porter Center for Performing Arts.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students with student ID. They are available online at, Southern Comfort Records in downtown Brevard, and at The Porter Center box office an hour before each show.

The play is comprised of nine scenes exploring the different stages of love and relationships in an alternate-suburban reality. Romance and twisted comedy abounds in a brisk 80 minutes.

Savage says “Love/ Sick” is a play about modern relationships dealing with problems that are timeless.

“To have kids or not to have them? What to do when the honeymoon is over? Losing your identity over time,” he said. “Whether it’s an absent husband looking at the newspaper or scrolling through an iPad, the context may change, but the difficulties we face remain the same. This is a cautionary tale for young folks out looking for love, and a moment of introspection for those more experienced in romance. Truly a play for everyone.”

This is the third production at Brevard College for guest director Savage. Past credits include “Medea” and “Some Enchanted Even-ing.” In addition to directing, Savage has previously taught theatre courses at the college, including script analysis and introduction to theatre.

The cast includes students of a variety of experience levels and features first-year students to seniors. Cast members include Faith Alexander, Lily Bartleson, Thomas Ford Cox Jr., Katelyn DiDio, Josh Goldstein, Sarah Haga, Derrick Hill, Kendel James, Ki’Ara Jordan, Alex Kroeger, Sarah Moss and Anthony Zuniga.

The production team is led by set and lighting designer, Andrea Boccan-fuso, costume designer Ida Bostian, and sound designer Brandon Smith. Student designers include assistant costume designer Karen Mackillop, makeup designer Hallie Moore, and assistant lighting designer Logan Taylor. Amanda Heskett is the production stage manager.
