Crop Hunger Walk Set – Brevard NC

October 3, 2016

The annual Brevard area CROP Hunger Walk is Sunday, Oct. 16, at 2 p.m., starting at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. The 5K (3.6 mile) walk on the streets of Brevard is a great family/civic/youth interfaith outing with the purpose of raising funds to end hunger “one step at a time” both locally and across the world.

Sponsored by churches in the area, the Koinonia Fellowship of Churches in Transylvania County, and one business, their goal is to increase the amount raised in previous years. In 2015, the amount raised was nearly $8,000.

Since 1983 Brevard CROP Hunger Walks in Brevard have raised close to $120,000. Twenty-five percent of that amount was kept locally and administered by The Sharing House for hunger relief programs. Seventy-five percent was sent to Church World Service (CWS) for national/international disaster/self-help hunger relief programs.

There is no fee to participate in the CROP Walk. Funds are raised by sponsoring walkers or donating to a team. The walk reminds participants that in other parts of the world people often have to walk for survival to access food and water.

If interested in walking, contact your church to see if there is a team already organized. Otherwise, contact Paulina Goodfellow at 862-3280 or Ike and Margarette Kennerly at 884-2162. To sponsor a walker or donate, go to and locate the Brevard, N.C. walk.
