A Bridge To No One

I live on Cathey’s Creek Road, a single-lane gravel road that meanders up the mountains, up through the forest between Highway 64 and Shoal Creek/Fish Hatchery Roads. Over the summer and into the fall we have watched as a new culvert was installed and a massive bridge was built across a tributary of Cathey’s Creek.

My 4 year-old granddaughter, observing this gradual change to our scenery, asked me who lives up the road where the bridge is being built.

I answered her truthfully. “No one. That is an old logging road that goes....well....nowhere.”

She thought about that for a mom...
