Meadows' Wilderness Legislation Raising Concerns – Brevard NC

Congressman Mark Meadows has introduced a bill that seeks to amend the Wilderness Act, in part by giving local governments veto power over decisions made by the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture and U.S. Forest Service (USFS).

The Local Wilderness Management Act, or H.R. 6156, was introduced in September but has not gone any further than introduction.

Meadows represents the 11th District in western North Carolina, including Transylvania County.

The bill calls for acreage currently designated as “primitive” to be designated as “wilderness study areas,” or WSA.
