Herbert Robert "Bobby" McCall

Herbert Robert “Bobby” McCall, 80, of Mills River, died Friday, Dec. 16, 2016, at the Elizabeth House, Flat Rock, after a lengthy illness.

A native of Transylvania County, he was the son of the late George Volney McCall Sr. and Ellen Orr McCall. His sisters, Lucy Jones and Georgia McCall; his brothers, George Volney “Junior” McCall Jr., Sam “Bud” O. McCall, James Lee “Jake” McCall and Tommy McCall and daughter-in-law, Denise McCall, also preceded him in death.

He was an avid hunter. He loved going to flea markets, yard sales and selling Christmas trees at the Farmer’s Market.

He was the former owner of Longview Shell in Mills River and he enjoyed sitting on his porch in his rocker and listening to bluegrass.

He was a loving and caring husband, father and “PaPaw.”

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Juanita McCall; daughters, Vickie Davis and husband, Mark, of Etowah, and Lisa Sobolewski, of Mills River; sons, Ricky McCall, of Mills River, Chris McCall and wife, Sheryl, of Saluda; grandkids of whom he dearly loved and was so proud of, Cody McCall, Noah McCall and Madison and Marlee Sobolewski; sisters, Betty Atwood, of Falls Church, Va., Susie Padgett, of Rosman, and Pat Hoxit and husband, Tom, of Pisgah Forest; brother, Guy Lee McCall and wife, Betty, of Brevard; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2016, in the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jennifer Matthews, Four Seasons Hospice Care, The Elizabeth House, the Council on Aging, Mills River Fire Dept., Henderson County EMS and Henderson County Rescue Squad.
