Destination Hike: Rainbow Falls

Our weekly destination hike is Rainbow Falls in Greenville County, just over the state line.

Rainbow Falls is a 100-foot waterfall located on Oil Camp Creek, found in Jones Gap State Park, part of the Mountain Bridge Wilderness. The "bridge" refers to the two watersheds found there, the Table Rock and the Poinsett. Like many of the other waterfalls with the name "Rainbow," the mist created from water creates a nearly constant rainbow.

The Cherokee hunted and camped by the creek, and on the creek's edge was a cave that extended far into the mountainside of Pinnacle Mountain. Legend tells...
