Rain Welcome At Cold Mountain Fire

As of roughly 4 p.m., Tuesday, 75 percent of the Cold Mountain Fire in the Shining Rock Wilderness Area of the Pisgah Ranger District was contained. Wednesday’s rain was expected to help firefighters with mopping up any remaining hot spots along the edge of the fire.

The fire, which was reported Friday afternoon, has burned roughly 132 acres.

The fire is about 20 miles south of Waynesville in the headwaters of Crawford Creek.

The human-caused fire is under investigation, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
