Board Facing Difficult Decisions – Brevard NC

Due to expected funding cuts, increases in insurance and a mandate for smaller class sizes in kindergarten through third grade, the Transylvania County Board of Education could face some difficult financial decisions in the coming year.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do for this coming year’s budget,” Norris Barger, director of business services and plant operations, told the board last Monday night.

In reviewing financial figures from the past year, Barger said the school system had a fund balance of $869,000 on June 30, 2016.
