Henri Erti will be the speaker at the GOP breakfast meeting on April 15.


AARP/Chapter 8 will meet on Wednesday, April 12, at 11:15 a.m. at Bay Breeze Restaurant at 1830 Asheville Highway in Hendersonville. After a brief business meeting, the program will be "Lifelong Learning Programs," presented by Carol Reuter of Blue Ridge Community College. Updates on AARP will be given by Rebecca Chaplin.

Visitors are welcome. Lunch is optional.

Join the Basic Apple Group on Monday, April 17, in the Fellowship Hall of the Lutheran Church the Good Shepherd, in Brevard. The meeting begins at 10 a.m. for Apple computer users, or at 11:30 for iPhone/iPad users. In addition to a non-geek sessions on saving your photos, there is ample time for questions or problems. They also cover just the basics.

Embroiderers Guild

The Laurel Chapter of the Embroiderers' Guild America will hold it next monthly meeting on Thursday, May 4.

The program will be the second part of a two-session class on creating a Hapsburg Lace scissors case.

Sandy Washington will focus on finishing techniques at this meeting.

The meeting will be held at Cummings United Methodist Church, 3 Banner Farm Road in Etowah/Horse Shoe. Registration is from 9:30 to 10 a.m. followed by a short business meeting and the program until noon.

Knitters And Crocheters

The Western North Carolina Knitters and Crocheters for Others will meet on Monday, May 8, at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 3070 Sweeten Creek Road in Asheville.

Over the past 10 years the group has created and donated more than 19,000 handmade items to local charities. They make afghans, dishcloths, pot holders, knitted dolls, hats, scarves, mittens, kids and stuffed sweaters, plus baby blankets, booties and sleep sacks.

The 29-year-old Erti was born in Estonia, grew up in Finland and moved to the U.S. in 2007 to study international business and Spanish at Brevard College. He then completed graduate school in Dubrovnik, Croatia where he studied

international political economy and economics.

A strong proponent of laissez faire capitalism, Erti currently works as a financial advisor for Waddell & Reed in Greenville.
