County OKs Radio Upgrade

Transylvania County commissioners have approved spending $530,000 to improve radio communications for fire, EMS and Sheriff’s Office dispatch.

Commissioners backed the expenditure Monday during their regular meeting.

Kevin Shook, the county’s communications director, explained the need for the improvements.

There is currently poor to no portable radio reception from fields unit in Balsam Grove, Little River, North Transylvania, Pisgah Forest, Rosman and parts of Connestee Falls, Shook said in a memo to commissioners.
