Reginald Marshall Tomlin

Reginald Marshall Tomlin passed away May 7, 2017.

Born Dec. 17, 1929, in Macon, Ga., he retired to Brevard in 1999 after spending many years in San Antonio, Texas and St. Simons Island, Ga.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, his sweetheart and soul mate for 57 happy years; a son, Grant Tomlin (Stefanie) and their two children, Kyler and Sydney, of Cedar Mountain; and a daughter, Bayla Pipkin (Walter) and their two children, William and Elizabeth, of Augusta, Ga .; a nephew, Robert (Bob) Tomlin and wife, Gail, of Boca Raton, Fla .; two nieces, Regina Lindsey (Larry), of Eustis, Fla. and Gail Byrnes of Haskell, N.J.

His parents, Ernest Andrew Tomlin and Rena Jordan Tomlin, preceded him in death by many years. Also predeceased were his sister, Ernestine Tomlin Fetzer (Harlan); and three brothers, Ernest Jr., Jack and Robert C. Tomlin.

His love of country and patriotism ran deep and he was eternally grateful for the gift of being born in America.

He loved his hometown of Macon, where he attended public schools and graduated from Lanier High School for Boys and Mercer University. He felt Macon was the greatest town in America in which to grow up.

He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and later served as a lieutenant in the United States Army during the Korean War.

His career as an overseas military food broker, serving bases in Europe and the Pacific, allowed him the opportunity and excitement of side trips to World War I and World War II battle sites-a true passion-especially the Normandy D-Day landing sites, which he visited many times. He could never view and study them enough.

He lived his life with an enduring sense of humor, was ever cheerful and optimistic and felt a day without laughter was a waste.

A memorial service will be held at Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church Saturday, May 13, 2017, at 11 a.m., with Dr. Keith Thompson officiating.
