Construction Continues: Construction on US 64 near Lake Toxaway is on schedule. The widening of the 1.3-mile stretch of road should be completed by next summer.

The N.C. Department of Transportation (DOT) continues construction on widening 1.3 miles of road on US 64 in Lake Toxaway from two lanes to three lanes. The widening will include a truck-climbing lane and four-foot paved shoulders.

According to Ted Adams, DOT's division construction engineer, the project has been a "challenge."

"We haven't had a project like this in a long time," Adams said. "Most of the projects we have aren't in this type of narrow, winding-road terrain."

The project will cost $12.2 million, nearly $10 million a mile, and stretches from Toxaway Falls to Indian Creek.
