After a season where the Lady Blue Devils defied expectations – finishing the regular season 18-4 and advancing to the second round of the 2A playoffs – four members of the team were recognized as WNC Athletic all-conference players.

The group includes two freshmen – Syndey Gilbert and Hannah Cabe – as well as junior Brooke Nanney and senior Lauren DuBreuil.

Gilbert followed in the footsteps of her older sister, Casey, as she was in the pitcher's circle nearly every minute that Brevard was in the field.

She finished the season 19-5, with a 2.01 ERA over 153 1/3 innings.

She also recorded 196 strikeouts, which was the most by any freshman in the state and tied for seventh overall.

At the plate, Gilbert batted .444 and was second on the team with 32 RBIs.

Fellow freshman Cabe was also productive at the plate in her first varsity season.

Cabe batted .425 and was second on the team with 37 hits. She was also second with 30 runs scored on the year.

Brooke Nanney

Nanney continued her amazing high school career, leading Brevard in most every major category.

She was tops for the Lady Blue Devils in batting average (.571), hits (44), RBIs (33), doubles (20), home runs (2), slugging percentage (.961) and stolen bases (14).

As Brevard's lone senior, DuBreuil closed out her career with a bang, increasing her numbers across the board.

She set a new high in batting average (.389) and RBIs (21), both of which were double-digit increases from her previous bests.

She finished third on the team in RBIs and runs scored (17).
