Gallery Walk Kicks Off Arts & Culture Celebration - Brevard, NC

Brevard's Fourth Friday Gallery Walk on Friday, June 23, from 5 – 8 p.m. kicks off the annual Arts & Culture Celebration that runs for two weeks leading up to the July 4 activities.

Downtown art locales participating in the June 23 Gallery Walk include: Red Wolf Gallery, TC Arts Council, Number 7 Arts Gallery, The Haen Gallery, Gallery at 36, Starfangled Press, Dragonfly Gallery, Trade-Arama Art & Vintage Items, Hollingsworth Gallery, Local Color, Gravy, Aura Gallery & Studios & Be Boutique, ArtWorks, and the new Artists @ Work Studio & Gallery.

Other downtown businesses participating in-clude: D.D. Bullwinkel's Outdoors, Main Street Ltd., Theophilus, Steve Owen & Associates, Broad Street Wines, Ecusta Brewing Co./DFR Room, 185 King Street, Marco Trattoria, Rocky's Grill and Soda Shop, The Square Root, Jaime's Creole Brasserie, Market at 36, The Phoenix, and Magpie Meat & Three.

Gallery Walk Events

Visit The Haen Gallery in the historic Brevard Lumberyard Arts District to see new work by Marlise Newman along with the work of local, national, and international artists who offer a wide variety of paintings, photography, and sculpture. Newman, of Charlotte, paints from instinctive feeling rather than conscious reasoning, hoping to draw the observer through atmosphere and a little mystery. Curious mark making and a surprise use of color along with the merging of classical landscape themes in a contemporary manner can be seen in this new series of paintings.

Red Wolf Gallery is featuring the work of sculptor Dan Bresnahan, who moved here from Wisconsin. His work is in many collections, including the Phillip Morris Collection in New York and Helene Wurlitzer Foundation in Taos, N.M. and also many private collections.

Bresnahan works in metal, wood and stone.

Gallery at 36 features world-class abstract paintings, sculpture and pottery. Artists include: Judith Duff, Jerry Domokur, Shozo Michikawa and Seungho Yang.

The TC Arts Council will host the opening reception for the Transylvania Art Guild's Summer Arts Showcase. Enjoy artwork by members of the Transylvania Art Guild. Stop by TC Arts Council and vote for your favorite piece of artwork.

Number 7 Arts Gallery is highlighting four of their new artists: Joe Bruneau, basketry; Rose Haynes, colored pencil, ink and scratchboard; Dave Lasseter, furniture-making; and Jerry Maxey, basketry/wood. They will be on hand to introduce themselves and answer any questions about their art.

Starfangled Press on Jordan Street invites the public to join them for the opening reception of "Transition," a solo exhibition featuring a new series of woodcuts by Greenville, S.C., artist Freda Sue. Meet the artist and enjoy a complimentary Oskar Blues beer tasting and popcorn bar.

Local Color invites the public to see new work from many of their 100 unique artists and crafters. See all of Adams Craft Creations' new yard art. The newest addition is Anne McClung's 3D hanging leaded glass creations.

Dragonfly Gallery will be hosting visitors with champagne punch and refreshments. Stop by and meet gallery artists Rebecca Kahrs and Mary Alice Braukman.

ArtWorks will be open for the evening and feature artwork by Deborah and Chuck Kidwell as well as McKenzie Keenan.

The Hollingsworth Gallery presents "Photo Inspirations 2017" by the Land of Waterfalls Photography Club. The following photographers have work displayed: Jo Crebbin, Robert Krause, Tom McGow, Terry Jednaszewski, Don Lander, and Mark V'Soske.

Next door at Main Street Ltd., enjoy wine tasting from 5 - 7 p.m. Jessica Guffey from Empire Distributing will be pouring. Wine discounts and refreshments will be offered during the Gallery Walk.

Artists @ Work Studio and Gallery, one of the newest working artist studio spaces, will be hosting live demonstrations. Lucy Clark will be working on hand building ceramic vessels, Cathryn Cooper will show some techniques for using graphite in her drawings, Ammie Orr will be showing off her custom murals on found objects and Julie Craig will have some silk watercolors in process. This new studio is located up the stairs above Number 7 Arts Gallery and the White Squirrel Shoppe.

Trade-Arama Art Gallery is an eclectic mix of art and vintage items, including both contemporary and folk art, fine crafts and a blend of mid-century and other furnishings.

Gravy is an artisan and retail market benefiting The Cindy Platt Boys and Girls Club.

Aura Gallery & Studios along with Be Boutique will feature local artists Billy Smith, Bonita Shipman, Grey Freeman and guests artists.

Steve Owen & Associates will be featuring the artwork of Brevard's 15-year-old Alana Merrell.

Looking for music? Broad Street Wines will have music by Mike Sweet and a wine tasting with Janelle Payne from Mutual Distributing from 5 - 8 p.m.

185 King Street will feature the band Ashley and the X's from 8 - 11 p.m. With influences from 1950s doo-wop to metal, they are sure to keep your ears awake and your heart on beat.

The Square Root features music at 7:00 p.m. during Gallery Walks. On June 23 they will feature Carver and Carmody in the Times Arcade Alley.

Wine Down on Main will have live music from 6 - 9 p.m. with Hope Griffin.
