Ricky Skaggs Explains His Path To Bluegrass - Brevard, NC

Instead of playing at the Brevard Music Center next Tuesday, award-winning bluegrass and country musician Ricky Skaggs might have had other plans if it hadn't been for his childhood encounter with bluegrass legend Bill Monroe in 1960.

"I was 6 years old, and my dad had bought me a mandolin," Skaggs recollected. "I hadn't been playing long when my family and I went to a high school in Martha, Ky., to see Bill Monroe play."
