Brevard’s Platt Architecture will be featured on the TV show “Barnwood Builders” this Sunday at 9 p.m. on the DIY Network.
Parker Platt, with Platt Architecture, and Mark Bowe, of Antique Cabins and Barns, LLC, will highlight salvaged materials for a barn raising.
The project was designed by Platt Architecture and is being constructed by Platt Management Group, Inc. The work of Carolina Timberworks, of Boone, will also be featured. The timbers were reclaimed from a historic barn in Canada and transported to the mountains of Western North Carolina.
Platt will showcase how the storied materials are integrated into a new design.
Platt described the project as a “family lodge,” and that the crew was here a few months ago and will come back to complete the project.
“Barnwood Builders” includes a crew of six carpenters from West Virginia, who have made a name for themselves not only through their dovetails, but also their job site antics. They roam the country searching for old homes and barns that are preferably more than 100 years old. The buildings are usually dismantled and sold for top dollar to customers who use the reclaimed wood to build new homes.
Shows such as “Barnwood Builders” air next to other hour-long shows such as “My First Renovation,” “Blog Cabin” and “Kitchen Crashers.”
