BMC To Host Several Events Celebrating Total Solar Eclipse - Brevard, NC

June 26, 2017

Brevard Music Center (BMC) will host a series of special events on its campus designed to celebrate the total solar eclipse on Aug. 21. From special concerts to film screenings to an unprecedented opportunity to stay on the Brevard Music Center campus, eclipse weekend at BMC will delight guests.

At 2:37 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 21, the total solar eclipse will occur over Brevard with much of Transylvania County within the path of totality. It will be the first total solar eclipse seen in the continental U.S. in 38 years and the first to sweep across the entire country in 99 years.

“It’s extraordinary that Transylvania County sits in the direct viewing path for this once-in-a-lifetime event,” said BMC president and CEO Mark Weinstein. “We are pleased to offer a series of specially designed events and family-friendly accommodations for anyone coming to the area for this occasion. We warmly invite local residents and visitors alike to join us as we celebrate the total eclipse during this memorable weekend.”

Kicking off this exciting weekend at BMC, Lyle Lovett and His Large Band will make their Brevard Music Center debut on Friday, Aug. 18, at 7:30 p.m. at Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium — BMC’s lakeside open-air auditorium. Tickets for the Aug. 18 concert range in price from $25 (lawn seating) to $125 (premium seating). This special BMC Presents post-season performance, also produced in collaboration with Mountain Song Productions, is one of a series of signature North Carolina-based events celebrating Transylvania County’s presence in the “path of totality” during the solar eclipse.

On Saturday, Aug. 19, and Sunday, Aug. 20, visitors to the music center can enjoy movie showings of Ron Howard’s “Apollo 13” and Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey” on the big screen in Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium. Concessions will be available for both movies, which start at 8:30 p.m. General admission tickets range from $16 for adults to $8 for children.

On Monday, Aug. 21, the center will host a special VIP event, “Total Eclipse of the Sun,” from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. A limited number of visitors will experience the eclipse from a prime viewing location on the BMC campus. The $100 per person ticket includes VIP parking, a barbecue lunch, live music, eclipse safety glasses provided by PARI, lectures by guest astronomers and eclipse experts, a live stream of the eclipse from other locations across the country and unobstructed sites from which to view the total solar eclipse.

For the first time ever, Brevard Music Center will make accommodations available on its grounds. Each cabin sleeps four guests and a rollaway bed can be added for a child. Reservations can be made online at tions/eclipse.

Full Eclipse Weekend details and ticket information for all BMC events and accommodations can be found at or by calling the BMC Box Office at (828) 862-2105.
