Greed And Cruelty

In his fourteenth century epic poem, “Inferno,” Dante Alighieri depicted hell as a series of nine concentric circles of torment for those who had abandoned spiritual values.

The fourth circle was reserved for those who embraced greed as their God. For the avaricious and the miserly who neglected the poor and thought only of their wealth and comfort, Dante depicted a future of eternal damnation.
