I think Mr. Lorenz’s conclusion (in his recent letter) that what everyone needs is catastrophic insurance coverage, i.e. a policy with a low premium and high deductible that really pays nothing until medical costs mount into the thousands, is dead wrong as a generality.

Such a policy is fine for anyone with enough income to get past the $400 blood panels and routine doctor visits and the like, or even handle minor operations in the $1,000 range.
