The Shop Of St. Philip's Celebrates 55 Years - Brevard, NC

It was 1962 and the Rev. Fred Valentine was serving as Rector at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Brevard. The first Beatles single had just been released. The world watched as the Cuban Missile Crisis almost spun into a war. John Glenn orbited the earth.

In Transylvania County, the Rosman Satellite Tracking Station (now PARI) was established as part of a worldwide network. Gertrude Dillingham, the first and only woman sheriff in the county, was appointed to serve out the term of her late husband, Sheriff E.V. Dillingham.
