The Brevard Music Center Association (BMCA) celebrated the 2017 season volunteers' service at a reception hosted by BMC following the Aug. 4 evening concert. During the event, the association honored individuals whose contributions were especially significant.

The achievement awards were presented by Michel Robertson, BMCA president. Throughout the year, and especially during the music center's festival, 248 volunteers actively supported the BMCA mission of "volunteers supporting young musicians" in a variety of ways. These awards singled out BMC volunteers who demonstrated outstanding service during the 2017 season or across multiple years at BMC.

Linda Randall received the Volunteer of the Year award for her "invaluable work, enthusiasm, and support in promoting the BMC mission."

Robertson said, "Linda has been an exemplary ambassador for BMC having served as Welcome-Raffle Committee Co-Chair and as an integral part of our Mailings and Deliveries Committee, literally going the extra mile when given the task of visiting Brevard businesses with promotional materials. She has worked countless hours throughout the year in providing services for the Brevard Music Center, the BMCA and BMC patrons."

Sandy Tooman was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. This recognition is awarded for a high level of contribution over an extended period of time. Tooman was recognized for her 12 years of service and her innovative ideas, energy and enthusiasm.

Robertson said, "Sandy's tireless commitment has resulted in a well-run and professional group of hardworking volunteers."

Tooman was commended for fostering excellent relationships with committee members, fellow board members and patrons of BMC.

Linda Thompson received the Linda Candler Award for 2017. This honor is rarely given and is awarded for exceptional, active, continuous and longstanding volunteer involvement that demonstrates a love for and commitment to Brevard Music Center and the Brevard Music Center Association. Thompson was lauded for her continuous leadership as a BMCA officer including president; for her service on numerous committees; and for her fundraising organization and planning.
