America is in the throes of an educational crisis because of critical pedagogy. Critical pedagogy attempts to help students question and challenge beliefs set firmly in the public consciousness. Advocates of critical pedagogy view teaching as an inherently political act, reject the neutrality of knowledge and are adamant about including social justice and democracy issues in the teaching curriculum.
