In the early 1960s, Americans were fascinated by space exploration. Most Americans living then remember John Glenn’s flight in 1962 and millions were glued to their televisions when Neil Armstrong stepped foot on the moon on July 21, 1969. It was a time of great scientific and technological advancement.

For a variety of reasons, interest in the space program and science, as well as government support, has waned over the years. That is unfortunate because the study of space and the space program have benefited mankind in a myriad of ways.
