N.C. Forest Service pilots practice their firefighting skills at DuPont State Forest.

Transylvania County Ranger Frank (Buster) Rogers will speak on "Protecting Your Home from Wildfires" at the Discover Natural Transylvania program in the Transylvania County Library Rogow Room on Thursday, Sept. 7, at 6:30 p.m.

Last fall's wildfires demonstrated the importance of being prepared for wildfires. Rogers will speak on how to landscape and maintain around your homes and outbuilding to protect them from wildfires. He will also provide tips on access and egress for emergency vehicles - fire and emergency medical, and what to do in event of a wildfire in your community. His short presentation will leave ample time for discussion and questions.

Rogers has been involved with the fire service, structure and wildland fire fighting for about 40 years. He has worked with the North Carolina Forest Service in Transylvania County for 14 years.

Discover Natural Transylvania will take a break during October for the Friends of the Library annual book sale. November and December programs will highlight the French Broad River.

These free programs are supported by the Friends of the Library. Light refreshments are provided. For additional information, contact Marcy at (828) 884-1820 or marcy.thompson@transylvaniacounty.org.
