The weather forecast is good and there are only a few tickets available for the 12th Annual Mountain Song Festival this Friday through Sunday

The festival, a fundraiser for The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club of Transylvania County, is "shaping up nicely," said John Felty, who helps organize the festival.

"It's amazing that we are now on the 12th Mountain Song," he said. "In terms of preparations, it's always a little hectic the weeks ahead of the festival, but over the years you develop systems and work on efficiency and in some ways it gets easier. But it is still a million details that need tended to. We have developed a great staff over the years, many of which have been with the festival since its inception. And we have about an 80 percent retention rate of volunteers, so most folks know what needs to be done and how to do the job, and that is really helpful because you don't have to constantly instruct or direct."

This year's lineup (see box) includes headliners Hot Rize on Friday, Steep Canyon Rangers on Saturday and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band on Sunday. Each year, the organizers make changes based on what was learned from previous years.

"We always try to improve and make the event a better experience for everyone involved," Felty said. "No big changes this year other than adding our late night shows in the DFR Room at Ecusta Brewing in downtown Brevard. We're featuring some of our local music ambassadors - Pretty Little Goat on Friday night and Americana favorites The Steel Wheels on Saturday night.

"All in all, this one is shaping up to be the biggest one yet. We're very excited about the lineup and, of course, the impact it will have on the Boys & Girls Club."
