Music and dance will both be a part of this Saturday morning's Transylvania Farmers' Market as the Brevard Ballet School and Dave Desmelik both perform on Sept. 16.

Brevard Ballet will present excerpts from "La Fille Mal Gardée," one of the oldest ballets still performed today, at the Farmers' Market on Saturday, at 10-11 a.m. See dancers ages 11 - 18 perform selections from this delightful comedy while learning how life just before the French Revolution influenced the work.

Under the direction of Angie Wells and in partnership with the CAN'd Aid Foundation, Brevard Ballet is a nonprofit civic ballet company, which aims to promote ballet through performances and educational efforts. Brevard Ballet School is the official school of Brevard Ballet and offers classes for ages three through adults. For more information, call (828) 200-4671 or visit http://www.BrevardBallet.org.

Desmelik is a singer-songwriter and instrumentalist whose musical focus is on original compositions. What attracts listeners to Desmelik's tunes, old and new, is the element of authenticity incorporated in them. There is no sugar coating involved. His songs are not wrapped in false smiles; rather they are stark and open and tend to settle on the pulse of everyday life.

Desmelik was born and raised just outside of Atlanta, Ga., but has traveled and lived in a multitude of landscapes. He currently resides in Brevard. He was an original member of Onus B. Johnson, a successful band based in Flagstaff, Ariz., in the late '90s and early 2000s. This band was on the front wave of jamgrass while maintaining the passion for songwriting. Today, Desmelik continues to pursue an ascending path as a solo artist.

With a focus on the bounty that this area has to offer, the market has more than 60 vendors offering fresh, locally-grown produce, meat, eggs, honey, cheeses, mustard and vinegars, mushrooms, plants, herbs, cut flowers, baked goods, jams and jellies, pickles and fermented veggies, breakfast items, coffee, prepared foods, and a variety of handcrafted and artisan items from local producers. Throughout the season, the Market hosts weekly music and events.

The Transylvania Farmers' Market is located in Brevard at the corner of Johnson and Jordan streets. It is open on Saturdays through the end of November from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Winter Market runs from December through April from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Visit the website at http://www.TransylvaniaFarmersMarket.com.
