Grover William Frisbee, 88, died Sept. 24, 2017, at Tore's Home of Brevard.

He was born Dec. 7, 1928, to Marion and Mattie Frisbee, of Spring Creek, N.C.

He loved the game of baseball. After graduating high school, he played for the Catham Blanketeers, where he won the Sandlot Pitcher of the year in 1948. He signed to play for the Cincinnati Reds and was eventually sent to Utah to play for their Pioneer League team, the Ogden Reds.

On Feb. 17, 1951, he married Gladys Ricker, of Hot Springs and continued to play for Ogden. Later that year, they returned to North Carolina where he...
