Encouraged By Letters

I read with interest and some encouragement two letters in the Sept. 22 issue of The Transylvania Times. One was titled “Comparing Auschwitz and Statues.” It was written by Charles Brendle and reminded us of the purpose of memorials and statues. The other was titled “Why Have a History?” It was written by Renee Bruce and questioned the idea that we should destroy everything we don’t like about our history.

Bruce’s letter even quoted the Bible and reminded us that “Erasing history, whether good or bad, seems fruitless. Our shared history binds us as a people and a nation....
