Brevard's Ava Findlay paced the Lady Blue Devil cross country team at last weekend's Hounds & Hares Invitational, finishing the 5K race in 19:40 to help the team place 10th overall. Brevard hosts the White Squirrel Classic this Friday at Glen Cannon.

Ava Finday was under 20 minutes again for the 5K distance for the first time this season.

Alyssa Lefler finished just a few seconds off another PR, as did Alydia Monahan.

Yet, the resounding feeling after the Hare and Hounds Invitational in Charlotte on Saturday could be summed up in one word: overwhelming.

"This year is going to be an absolute dog fight," said head coach Philip Latter, remarking on the depth in 2A. "There are six or seven teams in the hunt for the two podium spots at state. That's something we haven't seen in recent years."

Competing in the championship race against 28 other schools, Findlay ran 19:40, Lefler 20:42, and Lillie Siniard recorded a season best 21:07.

Monahan ran 21:37 as the No. 4 runner, with Madeline Dierauf not far behind in 22:10.

Current 2A favorite North Lincoln took fourth overall, while Brevard beat out rival Lake Norman Charter on a tiebraker for 10th.

Cutherbertson, ranked No. 5 in the Southeast region and No. 2 in North Carolina, easily took the win over Green Hope and Carolina Day.

The boys continued their very solid season, led by Will Coye's 14th place finish in the invitational race.

His time of 17:07 was the second fastest of his career and earned him one of the coveted dog tags the meet gives out to the top 20 finishers in each race.

Aidan Spradlin was once again the No. 2 runner for the Blue Devils in 18:43, with Dylan Sasser (19:03), Bryce Spradlin (19:26) and Parker Grant (20:51) rounding out the top 5.

DaCota Dysinger, running in the open race, ran the team's fifth fastest time with a mark of 20:40. The boys placed 23rd out of 47 teams in their division.

Brevard hosts its only home meet of the year on Friday at the former Glen Cannon Golf Course.

The 2nd annual White Squirrel Classic has 13 schools entered, including regional powers Carolina Day, Asheville, and T.C. Roberson.

The girls race begins at 4:30 p.m., with the boys following at 5 p.m.
