The Rosman Lady Tigers gave the Hayesville Yellow Jackets everything they could handle Tuesday night.

And to their credit, the visitors answered the bell each time as they won 3-0 in a match that was closer than the final score would indicate.

Both sides entered Tuesday's match having lost two straight and fought fiercely back and forth as they vied to improve their standing in the Smoky Mountain Conference.

Rosman raced out to a 7-2 lead in the first set after an ace from Abby Buchanan, but Hayesville scored three straight points to cut the lead to 7-5.

The Lady Tigers maintained a slight lead, as a kill from Erica Breedlove made the score 11-8.

Rosman held that narrow advantage and led 17-15 following a kill from Regan McCall.

Hayesville came back to tie things up at 17, but a kill from Katelyn McKinney gave the Lady Tigers a two-point cushion at 19-17.

But the Yellow Jackets fought back again to take a 21-20 lead.

McKinney tied the match at 22 with another kill, but Hayesville rattled off three straight points to take the first set.

Rosman tried to get on track in the second set, taking a 2-0 lead, but Hayesville went on an 8-1 run that forced the Lady Tigers to call a timeout.

Rosman's play picked up as the set went on, but they couldn't put together a string of points to cut into the Hayesville lead.

The Lady Tigers got as close as close as 17-14 before Hayesville scored three straight points.

From there, the Yellow Jackets closed out the set 25-16.

Facing defeat, Rosman found themselves in a hole in the third set as Hayesville built an early 5-2 lead.

Kills from Christa Galloway and Breedlove helped narrow the gap and Rosman eventually took a 10-9 lead.

The two sides fought to a tie at 12-12 before Rosman proceeded to go on a 3-0 run capped off by a block at the net from Galloway to give the Lady Tigers a 15-12 advantage.

But no matter what Rosman did, Hayesville seemed to have an answer.

The Yellow Jackets came back to tie the match at 15 all and the teams stood tied at 17 moments later.

Once again, the Lady Tigers went on a 3-0 run, but once again Hayesville answered back to tie to the score at 20-20.

Hayesville then took a 21-20 lead before Galloway put Rosman back in front 22-21.

Galloway led the offense with 10 kills and 23 digs.

Breedlove finished with seven kills and 12 digs while McKinney had eight kills.

The loss drops Rosman's record to 8-12 overall and 6-4 in the conference.

The Lady Tigers are currently in fourth place in the SMC.

Rosman closes out the regular season with three road games: at Murphy on Thursday, at Robbinsville next Tuesday and at Brevard next Wednesday.
