Edward Gardner Ceely

Edward Gardner Ceely, 85, of Brevard, died Oct. 20, 2017 after a short stay in Transylvania Regional Hospital. He was born in Nantucket, Mass. on Jan. 9, 1932, the son of the late Oscar Ceely Sr. and Trina Lamens. He is also predeceased by his wife, Frances Fortune Ceely, and his sister, Doroty Whelden, brother, Oscar Ceely Jr., and sister, Beatrice Conner.

He is survived by his son, James Ceely, of Brevard, and his daughter, Lisa Ceely-Derathe (Philippe), of Tampa; his three grandchildren, Charlotte Derathe, of Boston, LTJG (USN) Benjamin Derathe (Mariyam), of Virginia Beach, and Thomas Derathe, of Fort Myers, and his only great-granddaughter, Nora Derathe (daughter of Benjamin). He is also survived by his late wife's sisters and brother, Martha Fortune Wickers, of Sacramento, Calif., Sarah Fortune Moore, of Kennesaw, Ga., James Fortune, of Brevard, and Virginia Fortune, of Brevard, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gardner lived in Orlando from 1957 to 1994 and returned to Brevard to retire. Gardner worked for Martin Marietta for 37 years. He was a graduate of Nantucket High School and served two years in the Air Force.

He will be immensely missed by friends and family members, far and wide. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
