The Transylvania Times -

Mission Hospital System Is Great

November 23, 2017

Contrary to all the BC/BS propaganda, the Mission Hospital System, including its Transylvania regional branch, is a great one.

Friday night, Nov. 10, my wife, Sallie, had a fall at home and went to the TRH emergency room by ambulance.

Once there Dr. Cohen quickly determined that she had a broken rib which had ruptured her spleen. As a result, she was bleeding internally.

He soon had her on a helicopter headed for the Mission Hospital trauma center. Upon arrival there, Dr. Springer, the Mission trauma surgeon on duty, removed her spleen. She was at the trauma center, recovering from the surgery until Saturday, Nov. 18, when she moved to a rehab center.

From the time the local EMS folks got to our house, which was pretty darn quick, until she arrived at the rehab center, Sallie (and I) received outstanding care from everyone involved - doctors, PAs, nurses, aides, local EMT’s, discharge specialists, clerks and anybody else we had any dealings with, at both Transylvania Regional and Mission hospitals. All of these folks were devoted, not only to her getting the best of care, but also to keeping me completely informed and cared for in this crisis situation. It was not just a job for them. It was truly a mission. The hospital most certainly is well named!

Something of a side issue, but important to us, in addition to the great performances by personnel, Mission’s information system enabled our local family doctor to access the details of what was going on and be a source of assurance to Sallie and me that she was getting excellent and proper care.

Good things can come out of crises if we look for them. Our contact with the many folks who served us in this situation was a good thing, in spite of the circumstances. We are very thankful to be served by the Mission Hospital System.
