Timothy Shepard will perform at new Christmas Organ Recital Series this Friday.

The Beulah McMinn Zachary Organ Foundation of Brevard First United Methodist Church (FUMC) has announced a new Christmas Organ Recital Series for the community. The series will begin Dec. 1 and continue for three consecutive Fridays in December, with three different organists from Western North Carolina performing on the church's pipe organ. The recitals will each begin at 12:25 and last 30-45 minutes. The public is invited to attend these outstanding organ recitals.

Timothy Shepard, director of music and organist at Brevard FUMC will present the first recital on Friday, Dec. 1, at 12:25 p.m. Each program will include some of the organist's favorite Christmas music. Shepard will be playing "Pastorale" (J.S. Bach), A fresh collection of Christmas Carol arrangements by Alfred Fedak, and "Fiat Lux" (T. Dubois).

The other two organists for the series are Corey Powell of Central United Methodist Church in Asheville, who will play Friday, Dec. 8. Kyle Ritter of All Soul's Cathedral in Biltmore Village will finish the series on Friday, Dec. 15. Programs begin at 12:25 p.m.

The sanctuary organ is a 28-rank pipe organ built by the Schantz Organ Company in 1958. The organ has been upgraded and enhanced throughout the years. Most recently in 2014, the organ was revoiced by organ builder Daniel Angerstein of Hendersonville. For organ recitals, the console is pulled out so that the audience can see the performer play the instrument.

The Beulah McMinn Zachary Organ Foundation maintains the two pipe organs used at FUMC as well as the Robinson Harpsichord. The foundation also sponsors recitals and concerts for the benefit of the church and the community.

The church is located at 325 N. Broad Street in Brevard. Parking is available in the church parking lot on Caldwell Street behind Pad Tai. Concert attendees are asked not to park in the College Plaza parking lot.
