Hearing Loss Association

The Brevard Chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA), due to heavy snow’s forcing cancellation of its annual December holiday luncheon, will celebrate the New Year with a luncheon at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, in the Carlson Conference Room of the Transylvania Regional Hospital in Brevard. There is no charge for this event and space is available for several additional guests.

The special guest will be Pastor Mary Hinkle Shore from the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.

If you are interested in attending this event, contact Kathy Borzell, as noted below, no later than Tuesday, Jan. 9.

Regular meetings will resume on Saturday, Feb. 10. The Brevard Chapter of HLAA is fortunate to have a broad range of informative guest presenters who may focus on the latest assistive hearing devices; ways of coping with one’s own hearing loss or with a family member’s loss; advocating for one’s own access to improved hearing in all aspects of daily activities, etc.

In addition, the chapter has an active membership of people who are learning, coping and willing to share information regarding their own hearing loss experience.

For further information, contact either Borzell at (828) 743-0150 or Jill Roberts at [email protected]

Project Linus

The local chapter of Project Linus, a national organization that provides blankets to children in crisis, is sponsoring a Make-A-Blanket Day on Saturday, March 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Eliada Homes.

This is an opportunity to participate in creating blankets for seriously ill or traumatized children.

For additional information, contact Ellen Knoefel at 645-8800.

Stitches Of Love

Stitches of Love (formerly the WNC Knitters and Crocheters for Others-Arden) is a group of talented people who have created and donated more than 22,000 handmade articles to local charities in the past 11 years. They meet monthly at New Hope Presbyterian Church in Asheville.

They have recently reorganized and have chosen a new name for the group.

They now want to create and donate hand sewn articles such as quilts of all sizes, fleece blankets, fleece hats and scarves and lap robes along with knitted and crocheted items.

The next meeting will be Monday, Feb. 12, at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 3070 Sweeten Creek Road in Asheville.

If interested, contact Janet Stewart at (828) 575-9195.
