January 11, 2018

Joan Susan Lyday Fisher, 64, of Lake Toxaway, passed on Jan. 6, 2018.

The daughter of Neil Clarence Lyday and Dorothy Augusta Rice, she was born in Highlands and was raised in the Whitewater community. The eldest of five siblings, she spent her childhood helping to raise them.

She loved picking wildflowers, jarring honey and making jelly, while listening to her father chase hounds through the mountains of what is now Gorges State Park.

She later became a successful general contractor and was a loving mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy Augusta Rice and Neil Clarence Lyday.

She is survived by her siblings, Rachel (John) Schneider, Darla McCall, Randy (Teresa) Lyday and Maverick Riddle; children, Liberty Anders and Dylan Hampton; and grandchildren, Chesney Anders, Ryan Anders and Hannah Thomas.

“Goodbye may seem forever. Farewell is like the end. But in my heart’s a memory. And there you’ll always be.”

A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
