Partisan Board Election Coming

Filing for the May 8 primaries begins Feb. 12 and will include for the first time partisan elections for the Transylvania County Board of Education.

As previously reported, in 2016 Chris Whitmire, then state representative for District 113, which includes Transylvania, introduced a bill that changed the school board’s elections from non-partisan to partisan.

Whitmire’s replacement, Cody Henson, a fellow Republican, was critical of the change and introduced his own legislation to again make the school board elections non-partisan. House Bill 127 was introduced in February of last year...
