Deer are dwindling in number. Many biologists and sportsmen feel this is due to the number of coyotes, who kill the fawns, and a lack of fruit-bearing trees.

There's nothing like a few weeks of real North Carolina mountain winter weather to bring one's awareness back to necessity mode. As everyone buckles down for a while, just the sense of preparedness is a must for a good night's sleep during a winter storm. Food, water, shelter and transportation-conducted on most days with very little thought now requires much planning and effort. One trip to the grocery store for milk and bread before a predicted snowstorm hits, will prove the importance of the food category.
