County Approves Funds For Landfill Upgrades

Transylvania County commissioners recently approved $447,200 in funding for the Solid Waste Department, and specifically the landfill, to make sure the county remains in compliance, can address major equipment breakdowns and other issues, and to provide more staffing.

In early 2017, the state cited the county for various violations at the Woodruff Road landfill. At the time, Assistant County Manager David McNeill was assigned to look over the department, and to address and to fix the issues. Bobby Cooper, the Emergency Services director, was also assigned as interim Solid Waster director...
