As we grow older, the memories return. The outcry over our POTUS’ alleged improper verbiage reminded me of my Haitian Naval experience.

Six decades ago as a young officer, my carrier twice stopped for shore liberty at Port au Prince, the capitol. The ship’s medical officer and chaplain held mandatory lectures for the crew on the port’s dangers due to the very high crime, health and venereal disease levels which were the highest in the Caribbean.
