For the first half on Monday night, the Brevard Lady Blue Devils gave the Smoky Mountain Mustangs everything they could handle and trailed by just six points at the half.
But over the final two quarters, the Mustangs showed why they entered the game 15-1 and pulled away down the stretch for a 61-36 victory.
That score is bit deceiving, as Brevard stayed within striking distance through three quarters and it wasn't until the end that Smoky piled on the points.
Smoky forced three turnovers in the early minutes, allowing them to build a 6-0 lead with 6:10 left in the first quarter.
The Lady Blue Devils finally got on the board off a bucket from Taylor Sales with just under five minutes to go in the period.
Brevard struck again moments later as Emma Berry collected an offensive rebound and found Hannah Cabe, who knocked down a long two-pointer to make it 6-4.
The Mustangs reponded with a 3-pointer and a free throw to move ahead 10-5 before Tristen Berry got a layup following a steal to cut the lead to 10-7 with 1:15 in the first quarter.
Smoky held their three-point lead, at 12-9, before knocking down another 3-pointer to go up 15-9.
Brooklyn Rising was fouled for Brevard and scored a pair of free throws to make it 15-11, but the Mustangs hit another trey on an off-balance shot as the first quarter ended to move ahead 18-11.
Tristen Berry opened the second quarter with another steal and layup, making the score 19-13.
Hannah Cabe followed that up a 3-pointer, cutting the lead in half with 5:15 to go in the first half.
The Mustangs answered with consecutive baskets before Tristen Berry drained another long-range shot to make it 23-19 with 3:30 to go.
Brevard got within two points, 25-23, following a pair of free throws, but Smoky closed out the half with four straight points to lead 29-23 at the break.
The Mustangs opened the third quarter on a 5-0 run before Tristen Berry knocked down a 3-pointer for Brevard.
Moments later, Michelle Lopez collected a loose ball under the rim and put it in for two, cutting the lead to six.
But Smoky answered instantly with a 3-pointer on their end, and tacked on two more points to take a 40-28 lead into the fourth quarter.
From there, the Mustangs began to pull away.
They led by 14 before a 3-pointer from Rising cut the lead to 11. But Smoky proceeded to go on a tear, outscoring Brevard 19-5 over the remainder of the fourth quarter.
Tristen Berry led Brevard with 14 points.
Cabe finished with seven points and Rising tallied five.
The loss gives Brevard an 8-9 record overall and 0-5 mark in the Mountain Six Conference.
The Lady Blue Devils faced Pisgah on the road Wednesday and host Franklin on Friday.
