Cherokee Life Was Centered Around Seven Clans

Editor’s Note: During a recent Transylvania Natural Resources Council (TNRC) meeting, Yvonne McCall-Dickson, a local Native American historian and continuing education professor at Blue Ridge Community College, spoke about the impact the Cherokee had on the river valley, their lifestyle and how they shaped the landscape. The first part of McCall-Dickson’s comments appeared in last Thursday’s paper. The following is the second and final part.

Town life was very organized for the Cherokee.

Each family had a summer and winter home and in each town they would build council houses.
