Brevard Gets Second, Rosman Sixth At Conference Tournaments

The wrestling regular season wrapped up this past week as Brevard and Rosman competed at their conference tournaments.

The Blue Devils participated in the Mountain Six Conference tournament last Wednesday, coming away with a second place finish as a team with 198 points.

Pisgah took first place with 211 points.

Individually, Tripp Harris (126 pounds), John Pickford (170 pounds) and Luke Ellenberger (195 pounds) took first place.

Others who placed for the Blue Devils include: Cole Combs (2nd, 106 pounds); Dominick Adolf (2nd, 113 pounds); Caleb Zaludek (4th, 120 pounds); Armando Ramirez (4th, 132 pounds); Chad Johnson (2nd, 138 pounds); Hunter Holden (3rd, 152 pounds); Bobby Brown (4th, 160 pounds); Keenan Hawkins (2nd, 182 pounds); Josh Birkle (2nd, 220 pounds); and Matthew Ridenour (2nd, 285 pounds).

On Saturday, Rosman participated in the Smoky Mountain Conference, finishing in sixth place with 70.5 points.

Robbinsville took first place with 253 points.

Individually, Gabe Shipman took first place in the 285-pound division.

Others who placed for the Tigers include: Nicolas Mariani (3rd place, 126 pounds); Randy Moretz (4th place, 132 pounds); Brennan Chapman (4th place, 138 pounds); Cole Holcomb (3rd place, 170 pounds); and Conner Newman (4th place, 195 pounds).

The first round and second round of the dual team state championship tournament will be held on Tuesday.

Braves Score Sweep Over Tigers

The Rosman Tigers dropped a pair of road hoops contests to SMC leader Cherokee on Friday night.

The boys’ side lost 93-71 and the girls’ team lost 86-44.

Gracy Briggs led the Lady Tigers with 16 points.

Maggi Galloway (13) and Ashlyn Dodson (10) also scored double-digits.

The Tigers are now 7-8 overall and 4-3 in the Smoky Mountain Conference.

The Lady Tigers are 6-9 overall and 3-3 in the SMC.

Both teams play at home Tuesday against Hayesville and Wednesday against Cherokee.
