In the fall of 2015 the architectural firm Clark Nexsen, at the request of the Transylvania County Board of Education, presented its capital needs findings for the school system. The firm’s representatives estimated it would take $118 million to modernize all nine of the county’s schools. Several months later, the school system’s central office staff had reduced that number to $93 million.
