Scruggs McGaha Won't File For Another School Board Term

February 8, 2018

Betty Scruggs McGaha said that after “careful deliberation” she has decided not to seek another term on the Transylvania County Board of Education.

“It has been an honor to serve the needs of students, staff and community these past four years,” she said. “I will continue to work strategically and collaboratively with fellow board members, the Board of Commission and local citizens through 2018 as we, the Board of Education, seek support for significant facility needs of Transylvania County Schools.

“I sincerely have appreciated the opportunity to provide a bright and promising future to Transylvania County students through my many years of service as a teacher, administrator and, most recently, a member of the Board of Education. A heartfelt thank you is extended to the community, Transylvania County school board, and Transylvania County Schools’ teachers, administrators and staff.”

The seat currently held by McGaha, along with that of Marty Griffin’s, is on the ballot. Filing for the May 8 primary begins Monday (see related story).
