It’s no secret that North Carolina has an urban-rural divide that seems to grow larger by the day. Most of the population and economic growth in the state is occurring in the Piedmont, particularly in the Charlotte, Raleigh, Durham, Greensboro and Winston-Salem metropolitan areas. Some of those areas and their outlying suburbs are some of the fastest growing areas in the nation.
