Some National Forest Roads Closed, Unclear When Will Reopen

February 12, 2018

Turkey Pen Gap Road (FSR 297) on the Pisgah Ranger District will be temporarily closed due to damage that resulted from vehicles traveling on the road during winter weather conditions.

The road has ruts up to 2 feet deep in spots and is very slick, making it unsafe for vehicles.

A gate will be installed at the Forest Service boundary on Turkey Pen Gap Road. Visitors are reminded not to park on private property in the area before the gate.

Several other gravel roads are currently closed because they are highly susceptible to damage in freeze-thaw weather conditions.
