Jerry Vincent, 90, of Brevard, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, at his home in Brevard.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, at 11 a.m. at St. Timothy United Methodist Church.

A reception will be held at the church immediately after the service.

He was born in Detroit, Mich. to Walter and Anna (Klabouch) Cervenka. He was a graduate of Eastern High School in Detroit.

He joined the United States Navy during World War II when he was 17 and was a member of the United States occupation force stationed in Japan. After he was discharged from the Navy July 8, 1947, he worked at the Flying Tigers Airlines, C&O Railroad and as a long-time employee of the Santa Fe Railway until his retirement.

He met his future wife, Grace Duncan, at night school. He agreed to give her a ride home only to find out afterward that her mother was with her. They were married Dec. 2, 1950. They were devoted to each other and loved reading and the outdoors, camping, Hiking and gardening.


He was also involved in making things better for others and lived by the maxim that you should always leave a place better off than you found it. He felt blessed for the many long-lasting friendships that he made throughout his life.

He is survived by his sons, Wesley A. Vincent (Kathy), of Lafayette, Colo. and Jerry Vincent (Betsy), of Bethlehem, Pa. and daughter, Patricia Seek (Richard), of Tucson, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Grace; and siblings, Joe, Anne, Jenny and Rosemary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bread of Life, 238 S. Caldwell St., Brevard, NC 28712.
