Annual Brevard College Concert Band Invitational Planned Feb. 23

February 19, 2018

Brevard College opens its doors to the Scott Concert Hall once again for the 3rd Annual Brevard College Concert Band Invitational on Friday, Feb. 23. More than 260 student instrumentalists from Rosman, Hendersonville and Asheville will be in attendance.

The invitational offers participants a unique educational and intensive student engagement experience. Bands will be given one hour in Scott Concert Hall to warm up, perform and receive 30-minute clinics depending on the length and difficulty of the repertoire.

Each band will be critiqued in a non-competitive format and given feedback by nationally recognized guest clinicians. Bands will receive a professional audio/video recording of their performance. Featured clinicians include Keith Bearden, professor emeritus of Texas Tech University; Justin Mabry, percussion instructor of Brevard College; and Eric Peterson, director of bands, Brevard College.

“The invitational will provide Brevard College and our Department of Music great exposure to prospective students and outstanding regional music educators,” said Peterson. “Brevard College is the only institution of higher education in the region to host an event with this particular format.”

The invitational kicks off with the IC Imagine Charter School Honor Band at 9 a.m., followed by West Henderson High School Wind Ensemble at 10 a.m. A.C. Reynolds High School Symphonic Band, Rosman Middle School/High School Symphonic Band, and Hendersonville High School Symphonic Band will take the stage at 11 a.m.,12 and 1 p.m. respectively.
