Sharing House Diary: Wheels To Work Helps Overcome Obstacles

His new car will help him to continue to grow in his career and pursue higher educational opportunities. (Right) Rebecca Lawn is an assistant manager at Dollar General and now has transportation to get to work every day without having to ask for rides to and from work. During the past two years, our Wheels to Work program has paired 20 vehicles with hard-working individuals, including two cars already transferred in 2018. The people of Transylvania County are most generous when it comes to donating their used vehicles to the unique Sharing House program.

Sharing House identified a major need for people who are financially strapped as having access to reliable transportation in order to secure and keep wage-earning employment. In our rural county, public transportation is very limited. Also, most county roads have no sidewalks, making them unsafe for walk...
